About us

Uniting our strengths for education.

AITC-CEIA's mission is to bring together the strengths, skills and resources of its members to help improve students' educational success, support parents and advance the teaching profession.

Our mission

Student success, parent support, the teaching profession.

The Alberta Immigrant Teachers Association – Alberta Immigrant Teachers Collective (AITC-CEIA) brings together teachers trained here and abroad who put their experience at the service of Alberta's education community.

“Together, we are stronger!”

Our motto, and the belief that led us to incorporate officially in 2022.

Our goals

What we work toward

GOAL 01

Mutual support and solidarity

Promote mutual aid, solidarity and shared experience among teachers to foster peer support, professional integration and skills development.

GOAL 02

Support teachers in training

Provide resources, advice and teaching and professional support, especially throughout training and practicums.

GOAL 03

Inform immigrant parents

Help parents understand the Alberta school system and take part in their children's success at school.

GOAL 04

Promote innovation in education

Share education policies, research and innovations to spread knowledge, improve teaching practices and support professional growth.

GOAL 05

Build lasting partnerships

Work with ethnocultural associations, schools and other education partners to support educational success.

History

It all started in 2017.

Since then, we have supported immigrant teachers, education students and immigrant families in their integration, success and well-being.

Scroll or drag to travel through our story.

2017

Where it began

Education students from Campus Saint-Jean tell us how hard it is to complete their practicum. Two of our members, with three to four years of experience mentoring student teachers, step in to help.

2018

Parents join the picture

The student teachers also tell us about the challenges immigrant parents face. More members join in and the first information sessions for families begin.

2022

An official organization

In April 2022, we incorporate under our legal name: Alberta Immigrant Teachers Collective (AITC) / Collectif des Enseignants Immigrants de l'Alberta (CEIA).

2022–2026

Workshops every season

Observation, fall and winter practicum preparation, job interviews, provincial exams: 58 workshops and information sessions held.

2026

Today

With 61 member teachers, AITC-CEIA supports student teachers and immigrant families and is preparing its 2026-2027 action plan.
